Plans for a Highlander reboot have been doing the rounds for years now, with Ryan Renyolds once in line to take on the lead role of immortal Scottish warrior Connor McCloud, and both Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) and Juan Carlo Fresnadilo (28 Weeks Later) both attached, and ultimately passing, on the project. A new director for the cult classic urban fantasy has been found in the form of visual effects artist Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, making his directorial debut. Now the studio behind the project, Summit Entertainment, have set their sights on an epic piece of cast, with The Wrap reporting that Tom Cruise is being courted to play McCloud's mentor Ramirez, originally played by Sean Connery. It's an ambitious aspiration, considering how big a star Cruise is, and if they do manage to bag him for the role, it will definitely raise the profile of the beleaguered project.
