A while back, a Ghostbusters 3 rumour broke which put Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig in the frame to direct a reboot of the series with an all female cast. It was a rumour that had plenty of legs, with even Bill Murray picking his dream cast of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone and Linda Cardellini. Now, the rumour has been confirmed, with Feig tweeting that he would indeed be taking the helm of the Ghostbusters movie, and that it would "star hilarious women". The Heat writer Kate Dippold will be taking on co-writing duties with Feig.
It's an interesting development for a project that has gone through numerous ups and down over the last few years, one that could really shake up the project, offering a different take on the familiar material, and going someway to alleviate the usual fears that goes with the announcement of a reboot. No word on the cats yet, but it won't come as any surprise at all if Melissa McCarthy's name is attached to it.
