Considering what a box office juggernaut The Hunger Games have become, it's not a surprise that Lionsgate would be considering to continue on the franchise after the final chapter, Mockingjay Part 2, hits cinemas later this year. It was only a rumour up until now, but Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer made a statement, saying that they are "actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities", mentioning that they were very interested in what Warner Bros. Pictures is doing with their return to the Harry Potter franchise with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trilogy.
While nothing is set in stone at this stage, a prequel would be the most intriguing way to go, especially if the focus is put on the world of Panem before The Capitol came to power. But it will be interesting to see if Lionsgate would move forward with a The Hunger Games installment not starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
