The last few days have seen plenty of rumblings about Dwayne Johnson taking on the role of DC’s Shazam. While it’s not confirmed, he more or less revealed to Total Film in an interview, that he was going to play the character saying “"He has the power of Superman and it's not the Green Lantern by the way. Believe me - Jon Stewart - he is a character who I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so now we've gone in a slightly different direction. But this character has the power of Superman. He can throw down." And then if that wasn’t enough he dropped in the final piece of the jigsaw by stating “Just say the word…That's all I'm going to say”
And now he’s spoke to the Today Show in the States saying that the movie is going to happen, although it’s still unnamed.
“I've been dying to announce it by the way. We still have to find the right writer. We're having two, three takes right now. I've been waiting a long time for this and so have the fans by the way" he said.
The Rock will have to grow his hair out for this one, but the role and the character are pretty cool. It’d be interesting to see what Dwayne Johnson would look like in a super hero costume. Personally, I think he’s a bit too big to flounce around in a cape and what not and is far better suited to more “human” costumes. Anyway, watch this space and I’d expect the announcement this weekend at Comic-Con!
