Not since Ivan Drago squared off against Rocky, have we awaited such a battle. Batman and Superman going toe to toe, cape to cape. Readers of the Frank Miller graphic novel will be all too aware of how this goes, and it's not how you'd think.
Guillermo Grispo is the fight choreographer for next year's over hyped (and probably fucked up badly) Batman v Superman. Personally, I have very little hope that they'll get this movie right as it, like other DC movies have been surrounded with more problems than you'd expect. However, we may be in for a treat when it comes to the finale.
Speaking about how Bats and Supes square off, Crispo says“There’s a thought that Batman has no chance, that the Superman will squash him like a bug. But when you see the movie, and how it all comes out, there’s a very intelligent explanation as to why they would have a firsthand confrontation, though it seems to be totally to Batman’s disadvantage.”
He goes on to say “Now Batman is going to fight the way I’ve always dreamed seeing him fight,” He’s a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him, but filmmakers usually don’t go all the way with it. Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements…
And finally, proving he's more mouth than anything else, and undoing any thing he's just said, he has a pop off Christopher Nolan's trilogy
“Don’t get me wrong, Nolan is great, my hats off to him… but I think that he did not pay too much attention to the fights. Those are the kind of details that Zack, being so physical himself, loves preparing. I think there’s going to be a big difference when you see these Batman fights in comparison to the previous ones.”
Say what you want about the Nolan fights, at least he had a decent story. Crisp is only running his mouth here and generating some sort of publicity (it's worked I guess)
Ultimately though, the fight sequences are the last thing I'd be worried about when it comes to Batman v Superman. With a cast that's as expanding as many waistlines and numerous rewrites, release date changes, this is a movie that is, without doubt in a spot of bother.
Personally, as I've said in this weeks podcast (click the podcast button on the right) Warner should have backed up a convoy of trucks full of money to Christopher Nolan and let Snyder concentrate on a decent Man of Steel sequel. Instead of this cluster fuck, which is only serving as a way for Warner and DC to shove as many characters in there as possible and try and bring themselves up to speed with Marvel's cinematic outings.
