What is surprising though, is the speed at which the project may be moving ahead, with rumours swirling already about a possible major piece of casting and plot direction.
It's been reported that Eva Mendes could reprise her role from 2 Fast 2 Furious, and that the next sequel could see the story move to New York and centre round her character.
While this is still very early speculation, it kinda makes sense, as the series has a knack for bring back cast members from earlier movies to tie in with what they've done. Add to that the fact that we've also seen Mendes in a post-credit scene from Fast 5, working alongside The Rock's agent Hobbs, and you can already see the story beginning to take shape.
As for Fast & Furious 7? $400 million worldwide and counting, it looks set to be Universal's first billion dollar movie, so expect to be seeing Toretto and his crew for a few more years to come.
