Described as "The Dirty Dozen with super villains", David Ayer's DC Comics adaption Suicide Squad has made a lot of waves lately with numerous casting rumours surrounding it. Not long after it's official announcement, we got word that Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling were all being sought to fill the ranks of the movies villainous cast, and most recently, a rumour surfaced that Jared Leto was being courted to play The Joker. Now another interesting rumour has surfaced, with Collider reporting that Robbie has indeed signed on the dotted line to star as The Joker's psychotic henchwoman/girlfriend Harley Quinn, real name Harleen Quinzel. Once a psychiatrist psychologically manipulated by the villain to ultimately became infatuated with him, she was first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series, she proved so popular that she soon made the leap to the comics, becoming an important part of the Batman mythos and a fan favorite character in her own right.
Harley Quinn has been a character that fans have wanted on the big screen for a long time (she was rumoured to be the secondary villain in the once planned Batman & Robin sequel, Batman: Triumphant, played by Madonna), and Robbie is certainly an interesting choice if the rumours prove to be true. Quinn is quite a mad cap character, and her and The Joker's relationship is quite a dark one since she is psychotically devoted to him, despite the abuse he subjects her to. If the rumours do pan out, I'm curious to see how the character is handled on the big screen.
