Over the last few weeks, there has been a a lot of speculation on who will take the lead role in Doctor Strange, Marvel Studio's next Phase Three installment, with Joaquin Pheonix, Johnny Depp, and Ethan Hawke all rumoured to be in the running for Marvel's resident Master of the Mystic Arts. But it seems, according to Deadline, that the one and only Benedict Cumberbatch will be growing the designer mustache and donning the ridiculously high red collar for director Scott Derrickson's take on the classic character. It's certainly the most high profile choice yet for the studio. Most of their standalone movies saw a gamble (ones that have paid off spectacularly well) being taken on the lead role, Cumberbatch, on the other hand, feels like the first bona fide big name and guaranteed draw for the studio. No doubt, he'll be fantastic in the role, as he is in every other. Just image that booming voice when the character is shouting out mystical incantations.
Delving into the more mystical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange has no official release date, but with the lead role and director locked in, it wouldn't be a surprise if the movie landed on the July 28th 2016 release Marvel Studios already has earmarked for a so far unknown movie.
