I think it's safe to say that Kevin Smith has definitely put ideas of retirement behind him, with his man turned into a walrus horror movie Tusk, which hits the big screen in September, kicking off his True North Trilogy of weird and wonderful tales from Canada, all of which have come from subjects he has talked about on his Smodcast podcast. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that principal photography will begin on the second installment, Yoga Hosers, this week, and that Johnny Depp has signed on to star, making it a family affair since the leads are played by their respective daughters, Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp. Reprising characters who appear briefly in Tusk, the teenagers will play two yoga obsessed high schoolers who must team up with Johnny Depp's man-hunter Guy Lapointe to battle an ancient evil who threatens their town. Described as an action adventure, the movie has a real 80's adventure movie feel to me, especially with the kids fighting evil plot, and Smith the elder has said recently it will be something different from what you expect from him, and stated he was aiming for a PG-13 rating.
Yoga Hosers also brings back much of the cast of Tusk, including Justin Long, Michael Parks, Haley Joel Osmet, and Genesis Rodriguez, as well as bringing in newcomers Adrian Brody, Tony Hale, Austin Butler, Natasha Lyonne, Tyler Posey, and Smith's frequent collaborator Jason Mewes. Johnny Depp is also rumoured to play Lapointe in Tusk, so it will be interesting to see if the character will turn up in the trilogy's final part, Moose Jaws (you guessed right. Jaws with a moose), tying all the movies together.
