Kevin Smith took part in a Q&A at the Neuchatel International Film Festival in Switzerland and 35 minutes in he was asked what was it like to be on the Millennium Falcon. Having recently visited the set of Episode VII, the man who made Clerks posted a teary eyed picture online. Obviously his set visit blew his mind and having signed an NDA he couldn’t really speak about what he saw. However, Kevin does give a really passionate answer to the question in Switzerland and it’s definitely worth a watch (35 mins in for the Episode VII stuff) – Part of which we’ve transcribed below,
“I saw old friends who I haven’t seen since my childhood, who aren’t really friends, but I love them more than some of my fuckin relatives. I saw uniforms, I saw artillery that I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I saw them shooting an actual sequence in a set that was real. I walked across the set, there were explosions. And it looked like a shot right out of a fuckin’ Star Wars movie. I watched them like do it four times, standing there next to JJ and I was like “Good for you, you’re doing it!” ”
He’s got a great little tale about J.J. Abrams invite, being brought to Stage M and he has an pretty awesome piece of trivia about the cockpit of the Falcon. Either way, it’s a great watch and it’s reassuring to hear Kevin Smith blow his load about Star Wars Episode VII!
