With Pitch Perfect 2 having scored $250 million and counting at the world wide box office, I don’t think it will come as any surprise that The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Universal has plans to make the franchise a trilogy with writer of the first movies, Kay Cannon, signed on for Pitch Perfect 3. At the moment, it is unknown if producer and Pitch Perfect 2 director Elisabeth Banks will be returning, and of the cast, only newcomer Hailee Stanfield signed a contract for multiple films, so of all the Bellas only Emily Junk is guaranteed to return (I think it was obvious from the end of the second film that she would be the focus of any sequel).
Not tied down with an option for a third film, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson definitely have the ball in their court when it comes to negotiating a new contract. But I have a feeling Universal will do anything to have them return, because a Pitch Perfect movie would live or die depending on whether or not they appear.
