With production set to begin in November, word has reached us from The Hollywood Reporter that the Marvel Studios in currently courting Tilda Swinton, who is no stranger to supernatural tinged comic book movies after starring in Constatine, to appear alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme. While you would immediately think she would be up for the role of love interest Clea, you would be wrong, because she is actually being sought to play the role of Strange’s mentor in the ways of the mystic arts, The Ancient One, up until this point a part that was looked to be filled by a man (Morgan Freeman and Ken Watanabe were previously tied to the role).
And of course she is. Swinton’s career at this stage has being filled with performance after performance, from We Need To Talk About Kevin to Snowpiercer to The Grand Budapest Hotel (the role would probably see her don the old age make-up again), where she transforms herself completely and completely knocks it out of the park, so if Marvel Studios and director Scott Derrickson feel she is right for this role, then they should rightfully pursue it. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has recently seen an influx of high caliber actors, including Robert Redford, Glenn Close, and Michael Douglas, so Swinton is no surprise really. What do you think of this turn of events. Sound off below with your thoughts.
Doctor Strange hits our screens November 6th 2016.
