Bryan Singer is bringing quite a few mutants our way in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, from Oscar Isaccs’ titular big bad to the usual suspects (heh), like Micheal Fassbender (Magneto) and James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), to old names with new faces, including Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Ben Hardy (Angel). Now, the massive cast of characters is growing by one, with the director teasing the inclusion of Caliban, a member of the underground dwelling mutant outcasts known as the Morlocks.
Possessing the mutant ability to track those with the mutant gene, a big chunk of Caliban’s history in the comic has been in the employ of Apocalypse, who augmented his size and strength to better serve as one of his personal guard, the horsemen. It’s highly likely this will be his role in the sequel, said to be the final part of the trilogy started with X-Men: First Class. The addition of the Morlocks may also serve as the building blocks of the shared X-Men universe, with Gina Carona portraying another member of the tribe, Angel Dust, in the upcoming Deadpool (out February 12th 2016), and with the underground dwellers playing an important role in the life of X-Man Gambit, they could also turn up in his solo outing, with Channing Tatum in the lead role.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits cinema’s May 27th 2016.
