Ever since director Kevin Smith announced it in March, there has been quite a lot of movement on the sequel to 1995’s Mallrats, a tribute to his friend, and the original's producer, Jim Jacks, who sadly passed away last year. Originally set to start production next year, Mallards 2 rocketed up the director’s schedule, bumping back his long awaited Clerks 3, after he found the perfect mall to film in (and completely trash, that’s important), one that just so happened be set for demolition. Now, Smith has taken to social media to announce another twist to the tale: the sequel’s title is officially Mallbrats.
20 years in the making. 113 pages fulla old friends & new jokes. This is for you, Jim. Wish you were here. #MallBrats pic.twitter.com/O6HfIWbRY6

While nothing is known about the movie, the new title does suggest a new breed of mall centric slackers will share the spotlight with Smith’s original crew. While much of the original cast, sixteen including Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, and Stan Lee, will be returning (with the status of a certain Oscar winning Caped Crusader remaining uncertain), there are six new roles made for the sequel, one of which is being filled by Family Guy regular and Smith’s co-host on the Hollywood Babble-On podcast, Ralph Garman.
Mallbrats is set to start shooting this Summer.
