Director David Ayer has tweeted a pic of the clown prince of crime to celebrate the character turning 75 today, giving us a proper look at his vision for the Suicide Squad movie. Sporting short green hair, a purple glove and some comic-book type tattoos, this Joker is definitely a different take than anything we've had before.
While I appreciate that they're trying to something different from what has gone before, to me this just feels off. It's too much like a biker-gang take on the character, and the ink and dental grills feel contrived. It also looks like he's going for the madness route over menacing, which may work for the movie, but the character is definitely going to be compared to Heath Ledger's work, so that has to be a factor in the final creation.
I love the Batman mythos and Joker is such an iconic character that you're never gonna please everyone, but I'm not feeling this look that much if I'm honest. Let us know your thoughts on the pic.
