Yesterday was a big day for Fast & Furious 7 with the latest installment in the long running action franchise surprising just about everybody by becoming a global phenomenon, and reaching $1 billion in the world wide box office. Not only that, it managed the fantastic feat in seventeen days, beating The Avengers, Avatar, and Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2 who all reached this magic number in nineteen.
The Fast & Furious series is the only original live action franchise to achieve this level of box office success, with Fast & Furious 7 pushing the series passed $3 Billion worldwide, and it's the first movie for Universal to reach $1 Billion on it's initial release. For the only other time the studio reached this number, you'd have to go back to Jurassic Park, which reached $1.044 billion after it's 3D re-release in 2013.
Not bad for a series that started off as a small movie about the racing sub culture in East L.A.
