A few days ago, Seth Rogen and James Franco's The Interview seemed to be shelved for all eternity, due to a series of events you probably heard about even if you were living under a rock. Sony cancelled the U.S. Christmas Day release of the comedy, which sees the actors involved in a plot to assassinate North Korea's Kin Jong Un, after terrorist threats against theaters showing the movie forced several major theater chains to pull it from their schedule. This put paid to plans for the international and VOD release of the movie also, and I think every body resigned themselves to the possibility that the movie would never see the light of day.
Now, another turn in the story has presented itself, and The Interview will indeed be getting it's Christmas Day release with The Plaza Atlanta and Alamo Drafthouse, who saw their plans to initially replace the movie with free screenings of Team America: World Police shot down by Paramount, announcing that Sony have relented and authorized them to show the movie in two days time, with other theater chains possibly following suit. There is also the chance that some VOD outlets will be putting up the movie as well. This story is currently breaking, so no doubt we'll hear more in the coming hours.
