If you have seen the documentary Lost in La Mancha, you should know all about Terry Gilliam's seemingly cursed passion project The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which saw a modern day businessman transported back in time and becoming side kick to the delusional Spainish hero Don Quixote. It was a movie plagued by difficulties that forced the director to abandon shooting nearly fourteen years ago, and legal issues only presented another set of problems, including original star Johnny Depp unwilling to return. But with everything seemingly sorted out, Gilliam is embarking on his seventh attempt to bring the movie to life, bringing a couple of revisions to the project, including a name change to just Don Quixote.
Variety are reporting that rising star Jack O'Connell (Starred Up, '71, and the upcoming Unbroken) will be taking the lead role of Toby, who, according to the new synopsis, is a jaded commercials director who travels to Spain for a shoot, only to set off on a bizarre road trip to the village where a student film, a lyrical re-working of the legend of Don Quixote, was shot. Production is set to begin in the Spring for a May 2016 release, so hopefully it is seventh time lucky for the director.
