IndieCork, now established as Ireland’s premier platform for independent cinema, was officially launched today at the newly opened Rising Son’s Brewery, on Cornmarket Street.

The local film community was out in force supporting the festival which is screening 18 locally produced shorts, as well as a locally produced documentary, Mother Jones and Her Children and the world premiere of Ian Ruby’s Cork feature Dead Dogs. Guests were also treated to a special preview of Dave Grannell’s festival trailer, with soundtrack by Tony Langlois.

The diverse programme is packed with 50 best Irish shorts, showcasing the quality, talent and innovation in the indie film sector, Irish and international. As well as six new Irish features, there are new, independent features from the American indie scene, Germany, the UK, India and a wider international programme.

There was excitement as programme directors Úna Feely and Mick Hannigan talked guests through the programme for the 2014 festival, with a strong local and international short and feature programme, as well as new additions to the programme for the festival, which is now in its second year. “This second edition is inspired by the creativity of film-makers, music-makers and emerging and independent talents who we are privileged to platform at IndieCork”, Programme Director Úna Feely said.

Screenings, workshops, talks, scriptwriting competition, shorts, features, documentaries, music and food programme is just a taste of what Cork film fans will be treated to in Cork City next week.

The notable programme of music was announced with much anticipation for the gigs taking place at The Crane Lane Theatre each night of the festival. In particular, a special ‘Scottish Independents’ themed evening featuring; The Lost Gecko, Tom Campbell and Kendo Nagasaki, which marries well with the Scottish Independents shorts programme this year, curated by Matt Lloyd, Director at the Glasgow Short Film Festival.

Other exciting elements of the music programme worth a mention are ‘Out on a Limb’ records who present Women’s Christmas and Laurie Shaw as well as ‘Soundtank’ with sound artists Quiet Club and Woven Skull.

IndieCork is Ireland’s only festival that works as a cooperative and is owned by the members. IndieCork believes that in the current economic climate, the only sustainable and independent way of doing things is to do it yourself; this helps the festival to support and respond to local filmmakers, musicians and artists many of whom are shareholders in the company. So get involved and go to www.indiecork.com for further information on the programme!

IndieCork opens on the 12th and runs through to the 19th of October 2014 across many venues in Cork City.

IndieCork is supported by sponsorship from Rising Sons Brewery, who believe that IndieCork best represents an independent spirit and marries perfectly with their own ethos.

Some of the talented local directors taking part in the festival include Patrick O'Shea, Martin Vallely, Sean Breatnach.
