Before Prometheus hit the big screen, a lot was made of Ridley Scott's assurances that the movie would be a return a to the Alien universe, but wouldn't feature H.R Giger's terrifying creation, the Xenomorph. As we all know (well, those who watched Prometheus at least), this turned out to untrue, with a prototype Xenomorph rearing his dome shaped head before the credits rolled. It was a nice bit of fan service (one I actually loved), but for some it felt tacked on and unnecessary. Well, it seems Scott is over the Xenomorphs now, saying in an interview with Yahoo promoting Exodus: Gods and Kings, "The Beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It's very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it's obscene. They didn't want to do it and I said, 'I want to do it, it's fantastic'. But after four, I think it wears out a little bit. There's only o much snarling you can do. I think you've got to come back with something interesting. And I think we've found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start." While this doesn't rule out any future Alien, or even Alien vs Predator, sequels that Scott has no control over, we can safely assume any Xenomorph, of any shape or size, won't be appearing in any continuation of the Prometheus series.
With a tentative release date for Prometheus 2 given as March 4th 2016, work is being done on the script, with the director saying, "Right now, as we speak, it's being written. I've had 15 drafts evolving. I definitely want to do that again because I really enjoyed doing Prometheus." Personally, I don't think we'll see Prometheus 2 happening anytime soon, with Scott at the helm at least, since the director has The Martian, which is in the middle of casting, and Blade Runner 2, which is apparently "quite surprisingly clever" as far as sequels go, on his plate as well.
