When Dave Bautista was cast as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, people were understandably sceptical of casting of the wrestler (as they were of the whole project in the beginning truth be told) in a prominent role, but as we all know he squashed all those doubts, becoming one of the many highlights of the movie as the overly literal bad ass. Rumours abound that the runaway success of Guardians of the Galaxy has seen Bautista 'restructuring' his contract with Marvel Studios, which will lead to more appearances from Drax the Destroyer. Guardians of the Galaxy 2, set for release in 2017, is a given, but one rumoured appearance seems to be a 'significant' role in The Avengers 3.
With the second sequel for Marvel's premier team expected to bring Thanos' quest for the the Infinity Gems (for those not keeping count: they are the Tesseract and, possibly Loki's staff from The Avengers, the Ether from Thor: The Dark World, and the Infinity Stone fro Guardians of the Galaxy) to a head, having Drax play a role isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination, especially with Drax vowing to kill the cosmic despot at the end of Guardians. That line felt like a huge piece of foreshadowing to me. Throw in James Gunn saying Guardians of the Galaxy was "definitely connected" to The Avengers 3, it adds a bit more credence to the rumour, and hints that the rest of the bunch of a-holes might be tagging along with Drax. But as always, rumours, especially when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, should be taken as just that till we hear something more concrete.
