It’s been a long time coming, (too long in this humble reviewer’s opinion) but it seems that Dan Aykroyd could be set for a return on the big screen. Aykroyd hasn’t actually appeared in a movie since 2008. In recent times he has been pushing for a Ghostbusters sequel which will now probably not happen anytime soon. Aykroyd is soon to be seen in The Campaign with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. Reports suggest that the star will appear in another much hyped film; Behind the Candelabra which is a biopic about the late singer Liberace. Michael Douglas is to play the lead and Aykroyd will play his long time manager who doesn’t approve of his gay relationship with lover Scott Thorson. Matt Damon is set to play the role of Liberace’s squeeze, the project is being directed by Steven Soderbergh.
Behind the Candelabra was once all set to go at Warner Bros however the project couldn't get off the ground, this in spite of Soderbergh’s success with the Ocean’s 11 movies.
Now it seems HBO Films is taking over, and the movie will get it’s debut on the premium channel before a theatrical release outside of North America. This movie has been in and out of production for years, delays included among other things, Michael Douglas' battling with cancer. (He now has made a full recovery) Filming will get underway this summer, working from a Richard LaGravenese script which was based on Thorson's memoir. With a stellar cast that includes, Aykroyd, Douglas and Damon, it is sure to grab the limelight.
