While filming is only just beginning on Star Trek 3 (possibly titled Star trek Beyond), we’re already getting word on the fourth instalment of the Starship Enteprise’s rebooted adventures, with Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine’s contract negotiations for the third movie leaving them with the option for a fourth Star Trek movie. At the moment, they are the only members of the principal cast with the option, though this doesn’t rule them out for a third sequel if it ever materialises.
But this is still some ways off, and we should really focus on the Star Trek movie coming our way next year, with principal photography currently taking place at the Squamish Boulders site in British Columbia (rocky terrain was always a favourite of the original Star Trek series). With four time Fast & Furious director Justin Lin at the helm, working from a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, we know next to nothing of what is in store for us (again, we don’t even know the official title). What we do know is all the principal cast will be returning, with new comers Idris Elba as the villain (hopefully it will be kept under wraps better this time round), and Kingsman: The Secret Service’s Sofia Boutella in a so far unspecified role.
Star Trek 3, whatever it ends being called, comes our way July 8th 2016, exactly two months to the day before the franchise 50th anniversary.
