The Minions exploded onto Irish screens this weekend (read our review here), and it’s safe to say they made quite the impact, taking 57.5% of the total weekend sale, racking up an impressive opening haul of €1, 245, 657. This puts Minions as the number movie at the Irish box office, as well as the fourth highest opening movie of the year in this country so far, behind Jurassic World (with €1.38m), Avengers: Age of Ultron (€1.35m), and Fifty Shades of Grey (€ 1.34m).
Also, in its first week, Minion has already become Ireland’s fourth biggest animation of all time, trailing behind Shrek 3 (€1.81m), Shrek 2 (€1.68m), and Toy Story 3 (€1.26m). Not bad for a bunch of yellow guys who can’t string a coherent sentence together.
