Jared Leto is known as one of the most method actors working Hollywood today, pulling out all the stops to get underneath the skin of his character, whether it be losing 40 lbs for his Oscar winning turn in The Dalls Buyers Club or going 62 lbs, contracting gout in the process, when playing Mark Steven Chapman in Chapter 27. But hearing what lengths he’s going to portraying The Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad shows Leto is taking method to crazy new levels.
Speaking to E! Online, Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in Warner Bros. DC Comics villains team-up, told of Let sending Margot Robbie and Will Smith, who portray Harley Quinn and Dead Shot respectively, some very Joker inspired gifts, including a love letter to the actress playing his paramour/punching bag, as well as a box with a rat inside, and a box of bullets and a dead hog. Now, a lot of people (myself included) have been vocal about the actor’s extreme look playing the Clown Prince of Crime, especially the amount of time we’re meant to believe he spent in the chair of a tattoo parlour, but tales like this of his descent into the character do get me a bit more excited to see his portrayal on the big screen, especially when you consider this would be exactly The Joker would do in his downtime between meaning Batman.
