Writer/director Stephen Ryan will take his short film Rip It Up & Start Again to the 21st Palm Springs International ShortFest, where it is an official jury selection. Celebrated as one of the most acclaimed short film showcases in the world, ShortFest which runs June 16th to 22nd, screens over 300 short films each year from more than 50 countries. All first place winners in the Live Action, Animation and Best of the Fest categories automatically qualify for nomination consideration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Starring Derek Tapley and shot in Dublin by newcomer DoP Penny Merelle-Gray, the film concerns a quiet man’s pursuit to connect to his one true love by pen and paper. But of course, writing the perfect love letter is only half the battle. Ryan explains that his aim for the short “was to be contemporary but with a romanticised nod to the past."
