It’s being something Star Wars fans have be arguing about for years: during Han and Greedo’s meeting, who shot first? The original version movie clearly shows the lovable rogue gunning down the alien without a seconds thought, but the special editions show Greedo firing at Solo and missing, at point blank range I may add, before Han gets his shot off. It’s a turn of events that had many a Star Wars fan up in arms (for what reason I can’t really tell you), and there ire was stoked even further by George Lucas who said it was always his plan for Greedo to fire first, and the inclusion of wider shots cleared up the logistics of the scene for people.
But now, the debate can be put to bed, with CBC News reporting the discovery of what seems to be an original draft of Star Wars, dating back to March 1976, one year before the movies release. Discovered in the University of New Brunswick library by librarian Kristian Brown, it’s pretty old draft, as evidenced by the fact that Skywalker is still called Starkiller, but by pursuing it, Brown was able to tell us, yes, Han Solo shot first.
So, there it is. Lucas originally had Han shooting first, changed his mind, causing an unbelievably heated debate in the process. Hopefully now, this debate is put to bed.
