The Maze Runner was something of a breath of fresh air when it comes to YA novels that have been adapted for the big screen. Darker and a lot more violent than even The Hunger Games, and featuring an ensemble cast of young actors that carried the entire movie, it was a breakout hit.
Naturally then , the green light was given for the rest of the book series to make its way to cinemas and now we have our first look at the sequel, The Scorch Trials. It follows directly where the last movie left off, with the teens in the custody of shadowy agency WCKD, and being goaded into another series of life or death tests that will push them to their limits.
The sequel looks immediately more action-packed and the scale of the whole world they inhabit looks to have increased dramatically. If the movie delivers an adventure anything close to the tone and tension of the original, we're in for a helluva ride.
