We've got an update on the story that Vic brought you earlier about Josh Trank leaving Star Wars . It appears Vic was right to call bull...
There's been more to the story revealed today by THR that indicates Trank was indeed fired and that his behaviour on Fantastic Four had a big part to play in it. Producer Simon Kinberg was having huge problems with Trank on FF and had to involve himself so much in reshoots a few weeks back that he and Hutch Parker had to leave shooting on Bryan Singer's X-Men; Apocalypse to facilitate sorting out the mess that Trank had left behind him.
Add to that the fact Trank was said to be acting erratic and reclusive and wasn't returning calls to his producers, and you have the makings of a very bad situation for all involved. A Fox spokesperson is even on record saying that though they are happy with the finished film, there were definitely "some bumps" along the way. Thats about the nicest way possible that the studio could have said he was a f**king nightmare to work with.
Trank also missed a Star Wars Celebration event last week and initially we were told it was illness that kept him out but now it's been confirmed that Lucasfilm asked him not to attend so they could decide whether not to move forward with him for their Star Wars movie.
All in all it seems pretty clear that Kinberg, having had first hand experience in dealing with Trank, had a big part to play in Trank getting dropped from the project, and not without cause either. It's unacceptable when you have control of close to $200 million of a studio's money that you won't respond to their queries or liaise with them in a professional manner, Trank is quickly making a name for himself as someone not to be trusted with a big project and unless he changes his behaviour, studios will just think him toxic and the name Josh Trank will be remembered for all the wrong reasons around Hollywood.
