With Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) at the helm, Meryl Streep takes the lead role in Ricki and the Flash as a musician who is called back to her home by her family, including ex-husband Kevin Kline and daughter Mamie Gummer (Streep’s real-life daughter), years after she abandoned them to pursue fame and fortune. The movie has quite a pedigree with Streep, Demme, and screen writer Diablo Cody (Juno), a trio of Oscar winners, behind it, and while the trailer does feel a little cliched at times, you can’t deny Streep is on top form, as per usual.
