Officially attached to the project last year, it has been announce that director Michelle MacLaren (Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones) has officially departed Wonder Woman, leaving the 2017 solo effort from the iconic DC heroine without anybody at the helm. The official statement from Warner Bros. cites the go to of "creative differences" as the reason for the parting of ways:
"Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct ‘Wonder Woman’ together."
Wonder Woman is still on track for it's June 23rd 2017 release date, with Gal Gadot remaining onboard to reprise the character that'll debut in next years Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. No doubt in the coming weeks, the full picture behind the departure will become a bit clearer, and I really think this is one of those rare occasions that creative differences could be the reason, with Warner Bros. building towards a shared universe and MacLaren vision not really gelling with their plans. But this still isn't really what the studio wants for their fledgling super hero universe. This is the second major departure for the DC Cinematic Universe after Tom Hardy left Suicide Squad due to 'scheduling conflicts'. Rumours abound the real reason was that he wasn't happy with his character's role being pared back significantly to make room for Will Smith's Deadshot and Jared Leto's Joker. It really makes you wonder what's happening behind the scenes on the creation of the DCCU.
