For all those who think Johnny Depp is only good now for recycling his one off the wall, quirky routine, feast your eyes on the first trailer for Black Mass, Scott Cooper's biopic of notoriously violent gangster Whitey Bulger.
It could be his eyes are so blue they're off putting. Maybe, it's the way he goes from friendly to calm and menacing in a split second. Or that we haven't him go this far into a role in a very long time. It's probably all three. I genuinely got chills from this trailer, all thanks to Mr. Depp's unnerving portrayal of the infamous Bulger. This is definitely one to watch out for.
Released: 18th September (U.S.)/ 25th September (IRL/U.K.)
Synopsis: In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.
