The new trailer for director Gil Kenan's (Monster House) poltergeist remake definitely brings the iconography of the classic horror movie to the plat ("They're Here!" and the eerie glow from the t.v. to name but two), but he also seems to be putting his own stamp on the material, delivering an unsettling modern horror with a distinct old school feel.
Monster House may have been a kids movie, but Kenan's understanding of horror tropes and a genuinely creepy atmosphere delivered a pretty intense and scary experience. He doesn't seem to have lost his touch here, and while this remake probably won't reach the heights of the original Poltergeist, it should at least be worthy of the name.
Released: 22nd May
Synopsis: Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces.
