With Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) in the lead role, The Flash (not affiliated with the fantastic t.v. show) is racing towards a 2018 solo outing, after appearing in Justice League Part One the year before. We haven't heard much about the project since Miller's announcement, but now it's taken a huge leap forward with Deadline revealing The LEGO Movie and 22 Jump Street's Phil Lord and Chris Miller have come on board to write the script treatment. There is no word on whether they'll direct, but it is a possibility.
I find this a very interesting turn of events, that really clashes with earlier claims that the DC Comics movies are going to be 'edgier' than we are used to. If you're familiar with Lord and Miller, you know you can't call their work anything approaching edgy. They're perfect for the fun aspects of the character with The Flash, whether it be Barry Allen (the version Miller will be portraying) or Wally West under the mask, always being one of the more happy go lucky characters of the DC Universe. He's had his fair share of dark story lines, sure, but he's always been considered a fun character, and manufacturing darkness for this type of character hasn't really worked before (just look at how this turned out in Man of Steel or the first The Amazing Spider-Man). I'm intrigued to see how this turns out.
The Flash hits the big screen March 23rd 2018.
