While we're all looking forward to Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December, we have one eye to the future, with more adventure in a galaxy far, far away on the horizon. Episodes VIII and IX of course, but there are also a number of spin-off movies in the works, and, thanks to Disney CEO Bob Iger, the first one out of the gate now has a name: Rogue One.
Speaking at Walt Disney's annual share holder meeting, Iger also confirmed what has long been a rumour, that Felicity Jones will be taking the lead in the film, with director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) working froma script by Chris Weitz (About A Boy). Due out December 16th 2016 (almost a year after The Force Awakens), details are very thin on the ground for Rogue One at this stage, but I can't be the only one who thinks we'll be going on an adventure with the elite Rogue Squadron of X-Wing pilots. Filming begins this Summer in London.
Also confirmed by Iger was the release date of Star Wars: Episode VIII, written and directed by Rian Johnson. The movie will see the light of day on May 26th 2017, forty years and a day after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope.
