I think we were all surprised when the fourth collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks began production with little to no fanfare. What's even more surprising is that it snuck into production without a title, being referred to for the longest time as Untitled Cold War Thriller. But now we know what the film will be called when it hits cinemas, Bridge of Spies.
The title refers to a real bridge that links the outer reaches of former West Berlin with the city of Potsdam, that was used by the American and Soviet intelligence agencies in the 60's to perform prisoner exchanges. The movie, working from a script by Joel and Ethan Cohen, will follow lawyer James Donovan (Hanks) as he tries to the negotiate the very first prisoner exchange on the bridge, that of a pilot whose plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. As well reuniting Spielberg with Hanks, Bridge of Spies will also see the director's long time musical collaborator John Williams write the score, marking the twenty seventh time the pair have worked together.
Released: 9th october (IRL/U.K.)/16th October (U.S.)
