Setting sail in late 2016, Moana is the latest movie to be announced from Walt Disney Animation Studios, and is directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the film making team behind such Disney classic as Aladdin, Hercules, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, and, a personal favorite of mine, The Great Mouse Detective. A CG animated comedy-adventure, Moana is set in the South Pacific world of Oceania, and sees the title character, a spirited teenager and born navigator, set out in search of a fabled island, battling enormous sea creatures, encountering ancient folklore, and teaming up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, along the way.
Speaking of teaming up with Musker again, Clements said, "John and I have partnered on so many films, from The Little Mermaid to Aladdin to The Princess and the Frog. Creating Moana is one of the great thrills of our career. It's a big adventure set in this beautiful world on Oceania". Musker backed up his enthusiasm, saying, "Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself. She's the kind of character we all root for, and we can't wait to introduce her to audiences." Judging by what Clements and Musker have already achieved together, and Disney Animation fantastic output lately, Moana will definitely be one to keep an eye on.
