Many months back, Dwayne Johnson let slip that he was going to star in an upcoming DC Comics movie. He was playing coy, but he did drop some thinly veiled hints that the movie in question was Shazam, a movie Warner Bros. had confirmed was part of their growing DC Comics cinematic universe. Johnson would confirm if he was playing the titular hero, a young boy transformed into a super powered hero when he says the word 'Shazam', or the movies big bad Black Adam, who has the same powers as the hero. Since he has been attached to the project as the villain in its many iterations for years, it was a no brainer who he would be playing, we were just biding our time till it was confirmed. Now, we finally know for certain Johnson will be playing the villain, after he took to Twitter to announce it. I am pretty excited for this, as a villain role is something we haven't seen him tackle much of (The Scorpion King aside), though his tweet points towards this version of Black Adam being more of an antihero.
Johnson is the first name to be attached to the project, though expect this news to get the ball rolling. There has been a rumour for a while Shazam would open after Batman v Batman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, taking the August 5th date that has been confirmed for a DC movie, but there is nothing concrete at this stage.
