In the early days of the Bond series, any villain worth his salt had an iconic henchman to give the sauve super spy a run for his money. Jaws and Oddjob are ones everyone know, but there have also been Donald "Red" Grant, Tee Hee, May Day, Mr. Stamper, Zao, and Xenia Onatopp to name just a few throughout the years. Since Daniel Craig has taken over , the imposing henchmen have been absent, casualty to the more serious tone the reboot was going for. But with Skyfall doing an about turn and fully embracing old school Bond, that element of the Bond series might be making a come back with James Bond 24. The movie, with Sam Mendes once again behind the camera, is set o begin production this December, and mi6-hq.com claim that the production are looking for actors to play a "pyshically imposing henchman". The full details of the potential character reads as follows:
"Casting has begun for the main assassin, with the search specifically focussed on someone extremely physically fit and over 6' 2". Whoever wins the role will have several altercations with Daniel Craig's 007 throughout the film and also a driving sequence. Former sports athletes will be under consideration along with anyone 'very unusual'. The character has the working name of 'Hinx' (which may change before shooting starts) and is said to be between 30 and 45 years old.The goal is to find the next Jaws or Oddjob - a henchman so different to anything that has gone before that they will become instantly iconic in the film series."
This is all a rumour at this stage, but I am secretly hoping it turns out to true. The henchmen have always been my favorite part of the James Bond franchise, and I have anxiously been awaiting their return.
