Warner Bros. are looking to continue the Harry Potter franchise with Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, based on a fictional book in the movies universe, and what better director to usher in this new potential franchise than the man who brought us the final four Harry Potter movies? David Yates has signed on to direct in the first film in the planned trilogy, and is currently in negotiations to direct the rest. The new film will be set in New York seventy years before the first movie, so won't be caught up in any of that nasty Voldemort business, and will tell the story of Newt Salamander as he searches for the legendary beasts who populate the wizarding world. Yates isn't the first Harry Potter director to be approached to direct the spin-off, with the job also been offered to The Prisoner of Azkaban's Alfonso Cauron.
No word on when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will go into production, but with a release date set fro November 18th 2016, it will most likely be straight after Yates wraps on the upcoming Tarzan with Alexander Skarsgard.
