It’s awesome news that Pacific Rim 2 is a go and pre-production will start in a few weeks in August. But then it stops at the start of 2015 for a bit as Guillermo Del Toro is set to do, what he calls “a strange little movie”. The director is set to shoot this small movie in black and white around February / March and then he’ll get back to giant robots and kaiju attacks.
Speaking to Collider, Del Toro says that “It’s a very small cast. I would love to have John Hurt, and there’s an actress that I have in mind that is not well known but I’ve seen her in a short film. That’s all she’s really done, one feature and one short, but she has an incredibly interesting taste and I’m gonna try her out for the main role.” And while he’s not giving anything away about the plot, he does say that it’ll have “one great creature in it too”.
No doubt some of you may find it bizarre that a director like Del Toro would take on two projects and juggle the two. Regardless of size and budget, no doubt the man wants to deliver two quality products. But he’s not the only director to do something. In between principal photography and post production of The Avengers, Joss Whedon shot Much Ado About Nothing, which was shot in 12 days…and also in black and white!
