In the the run up to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, we've had plenty of time to get to know the Guardians themselves, but we haven't seen very little of the villains of the piece, namely Karen Gillan's Nebula and Lee Pace's Ronan. One bad guy who have seen nothing of is Michael Rooker (better known to us all as redneck bad ass Merle Dixon in The Walking Dead) as the blue skinned, space pirate Yondu. We finally got a glimpse of him in the extended
trailer which dropped yesterday, and now USA Today have further images of the character, a role written specially for Rooker. Taking the look and name of the character who was a founding member of the Guardians in the original comic, the back story of the character has been changed for the movie, re-imagining him as a mentor to Chris Pratt's Star-Lord. Saying any more does come very close to spoiler territory, so I'll leave it at that, and you can check the very impressive practical make up work and effects of the character below.
As a bonus piece of trivia, the actor beside Rooker in the second picture is Sean Gunn, director James's brother. As well as having the role of Yondu's right hand man, Kraglin, he also provides the motion capture work for Rocket Raccoon and Thanos, the big bad who will be most likely be making life hard for The Avengers in future films, voiced by Josh Brolin. See, the more you know.
