There was a lot to make you jump out of your seat in James Wan's superb horror movie The Conjuring, but it was Annabelle, the creepy doll prominent in the films opening scenes, who took the lion's share of the scary moments. It was long known that the doll would be getting her own spin-off movie to scare the bejeesus out of us all over again, and now Warner Bros. and New Line have announced Annabelle will be released on October 3rd of this year, just in time for Halloween. James Wan won't be returning to helm the spin-off, with that job falling to The Conjuring's director of photography John R. Leonetti, with Anabelle Wallis (t.v.'s Peaky Blinders) and Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave) being amongst those terrorised by the doll. Having Wan behind the camera would have the preferred choice for director (he will stay on as exec producer), but, since he was The Conjuring's DP, he can at least replicate that movies style. Let's just hope some of Wan's talent for scares rubbed off on him, though with a creation as creepy as Annabelle, half the work is done for him already.
