This rumour has been gathering momentum for the last few hours. In a nutshell, rumours are flying through hyperspace that Tom Cruise is in talks to make a cameo in Star Wars Episode VII. As most of you may know, Episode VII has been shooting in London and The Sun news paper reported that the Cruise machine “met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel" with a group of people that included J.J. Abrams.
Keep in mind that Abrams and Cruise are friends, with Abrams getting his first big movie break on Mission Impossible 3. Now, a rep for Tom Cruise has told ET Canada that there is 'no truth' to the rumours that the Edge of Tomorrow star is in talks with J.J. Abrams to make a cameo in Star Wars: Episode VII. It’s insane, yet quite clever (albeit typical gutter press tactics) to come up with a story out of that.
Of course he’s not in talks to make a cameo if he has ALREADY signed up to do something. The rep isn’t lying. He’s not in talks to star in a cameo. Now that’s applying the really insane, conspiracy theorist to the rumour.
Realistically though, as much as I’m a huge fan of TC, I can’t really see him fit into the Star Wars Universe. It’s rare that the biggest movie star in the world will take second or third billing (Tropic Thunder aside). And this certainly wouldn’t be a Tom Cruise movie, it’d be a Star Wars movie. Regardless of the rumours, I can’t see this happening. While it might be a big of fun, it just doesn’t make any sense on any level. Granted, stranger things have happened. Samuel L. Jackson anybody?
What do you think? Would you like to see Tom Cruise in a Star Wars movie?
