For the love of God. This isn’t something from our weekly Ultimate Recast Reboot on the podcast. This is a legit story. Predator IS being rebooted. So, pick your jaw up off the desk…or floor and let’s see what’s going on with one of cinemas greatest monsters. Now before you explode into a million pieces, just hold this thought for a minute. Shane Black (who ironically played Hawkins in the original movie) is writing a treatment for the movie and then Fred Dekker (Monster Squad, Robocop 3) will take over for the script. Dekker hasn’t written anything since a few episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise back in 2002 and while Shane Black has quite a decent filmography behind him (Iron Man 3 being the most recent) I have very little faith in this.
Yeah, yeah I hear ya! I’m shit canning a movie before it gets off the ground. That is a fair point, but think about it. What the hell can they do to “reboot” Predator. Over the years we’ve had abysmal Predator movies, many involving Aliens and while they were visually quite decent, the stories left alot to be desired. And with Hollywood now squarely targeting teen audiences, you can kiss goodbye to an all out balls to the wall Predator movie.
Is there any point in rebooting the whole thing? I get how it establishes a character to new audiences, but the Predator is an iconic cinema monster. Hell, everybody knows “Get to the Choppppaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh”. The obvious choice to play Dutch (Schwarzenggers character) would be The Rock. Although at this stage I’d prefer to beat my head off a Rock…not the Rock.
