I will admit that the fact that Disney and Lucasfilm, as well as continuing the Star Wars saga with Episode VII, were expanding the universe with a series of spin off movies, which will tell stories that exist alongside the core universe, had kind of slipped my mind. But it has come back to my attention in a major way with the news that Gareth Edwards, fresh off his monstrous (sorry) hit Godzilla, has signed on to direct the first spin off, due December 16 2016. Nothing much is known about the movie, written by The Book of Eli's Gary Whitta, though rumours have been floating around for a while that the first spin off would focus on the Star Wars universe's resident bad ass, Boba Fett. No doubt eveything will be revealed over the next few months.
