Jose Padilha's Robocop gets another new cast member in the form of Samuel L. Jackson, joining the already announced Joel Kinnaman, as the titular cyborg, and Gary Oldman. Like Oldman, who plays Robocop's creator Norton, Jackson's character was created specially for the remake. He will play Pat Novak, a media mogul said to be a powerful force in the world of Robocop.
The more I hear about this project, with the focus on how Alex Murphy becomes Robocop (something glossed over in the original), the more it seems to be it's own movie, a new take on an established story and not just a remake for the sake of being an remake. My interest is piqued for this one. Shooting is slated to begin in September, with a tentative release date given as the 9th of August 2013.
