When word breaks out that re-shoots have been scheduled for a major Hollywood production nobody usually bats an eyelid, as the budgets for such films typically account for such circumstances. But, when word breaks out that seven weeks of re-shoots have been scheduled, aswell as a major overhaul of the 3rd act (the business-end) of the script, well then that is huge cause for concern.
Empire are reporting that Prometheus and Lost scribe Damon Lindlelof has been drafted in to remedy the perceived problems with the script with production scheduled for September/October. It goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway because otherwise you’d have nothing to read) that news like this does not bode well whatsoever for the adaptation of Max Brooks’ zombie apocalypse tale. It is also quite surprising given some of the talent involved; Quantum of Solace’s Marc Forster on directing duties and Brad Pitt; the star of a solid cast.
Those of us who were/are looking forward to the film, originally set for a December release, now pushed back to June 2013, need not lose hope just yet. Mr. Lindlelof happens to be quite a good writer as fans of the fantastic Prometheus will attest to. He is also working of J.J Abrams latest Star Trek offering. Let’s reserve judgement then until we get to see it here, around this time next year.
