Plans for a film adaption of the book were set up in 2003, with M Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense), Alfonso Cuaron (Children Of Men), and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) all attached to direct at one point or another. The job finally went to Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain), working from a script by David Magee (Finding Neverland). The film promises to be a 3D visual treat, hoping to emulate last years Hugo. If the first image released from the production, showing newcomer Suraj Sharma as Pi with Bengal tiger Richard Parker, is anything to go by, we should be in for something special.
The film also stars Irrfan Khan, Gerard Depardieu, and Tobey Maguire, and is set for release on December 21st 2012.
