100 years ago today (April 30th), Universal was founded in the US state of New Jersey. Founded by a German immigrant; Carl Laemmie, who led a team of entrepreneurs to set up the studio. Laemmie is widely accepted as one of the founding fathers of Hollywood.
My first memory of the Universal logo was growing up as a child, when I saw Smokey and the Bandit. That’s my first ever recollection of the infamous Globe and logo. The Universal Bandit logo was unique as it featured a cartoon trans am and cop car driving around the logo, complete with the bandits laugh. From Alfred Hitchcock to Steven Spielberg, Universal have associated itself with film making icons and legends and have brought some of cinemas most loved movies to the big screen.
So, on this very special day, happy birthday Universal! Here’s to another 100 years! Keep on doing!!
Before we go looking for some cake, we have a very special look at the Universal logo through the ages, so roll up and get some cinema history!!!
